Competitions are an exciting part of Life Saving. Carnivals are held through the Summer season (Nov-Mar) at Bayside and ocean beaches throughout Victoria on a local and state level. All Nippers registered at Brighton Life Saving Club are welcome and invited to represent the club at youth carnivals and events.
Carnivals are designed to teach children beach safety, surf skills, strength and fitness which is required if they become volunteer Life Savers in the future.
Carnivals are conducted on land (beach) and water and may include:
To participate in competitions, children must demonstrate swimming proficiency applicable to their age group, which will be assessed as part of the BLSC Nippers Program.
Competitions are a fantastic way to make friendships and build on individual and team skills. We encourage all Nippers to participate and even attend if not competing to support and cheer on the team.
All BLSC registered Nippers, between U8 and U13 (see clarification of age groups on club website under 'Nippers'), who attend Friday evening sessions at the club, are eligible to attend these carnivals (the club will cover entry costs). We also attend to run some weekend training sessions at the club with specialist coaches to help kids gain an understanding of how the carnivals and events work.
